“Three days in a TCC basement”: volunteer describes being mobilized by recruiters despite having a deferral
09.06.2025 08:04Ukraine has reached the point where both women and people from the age of 18 must prepare for mobilization.
This controversial statement was made by volunteer Maria Berlinskaya in an interview with LB Live. Curiously, she herself is in no rush to enlist.
According to Berlinskaya, there is currently no immediate necessity, but she is convinced that all adults — without exception — should be ready for mobilization.
“I really don’t want to see yesterday’s schoolchildren and women serving. We still have mobilization resources, the ability to recruit foreigners. There are people who have never been involved in defense but can be,” Berlinskaya said.
Her statement triggered negative reactions from members of Ukraine’s parliament.
“I think we should start not with 18-year-old girls, but with Ms. Berlinskaya herself. Perhaps she should mobilize first, and only then tell others who should be mobilized,” said MP Oleksiy Honcharenko.
“You know, when the country is full of healthy members of supervisory boards, grant organization reps, and regulars at forums, conferences, and panels, to start talking about ‘mobilizing women and 18-year-olds’ is basically saying: let these well-groomed, waxed-bearded gentlemen continue feeling safe — at the cost of women and 18-year-olds,” MP Maksym Buzhansky also voiced strong criticism.
Both Buzhansky and Honcharenko expressed confidence that mobilization of women in Ukraine will not happen.
