02.02.2026 - 06:32In Zakarpattia, a Hungarian citizen, Zsolt Reban, died after being forcibly mobilized.
This was reported by the Hungarian newspaper Magyar Nemzet.
According to the deceased man’s family, he was examined in Uzhhorod and Berehove, and each time he was sent home, being told that his health condition did not meet military requirements.
However, on January 6, as he was returning from work home for lunch, a police vehicle stopped him and took him away. Despite attempts by family members to point out that he was ill and had previously been deemed unfit for service, they were not listened to.
Zsolt Reban was last able to speak with his family by phone on January 16. At that time, he said he was undergoing training at the Yavoriv military center near Lviv, but had no idea when he would be allowed to return home.
Two days later, it became known that he had fallen ill at the training ground, lost consciousness, and died. According to official documents, his death occurred as a result of cardio-respiratory failure accompanied by mild pneumonia.
The funeral took place on January 26.
In connection with this, Hungary’s foreign minister, Péter Szijjártó, said that it is time to put an end to the war fueled by Brussels’ military policy, and that the international community should finally take action against what he called the extremely brutal, open “hunt” for Ukrainians and forced conscription into the army.
He believes that, despite the fact that the war in Ukraine has already been going on for four years, Brussels continues to stoke tensions, despite U.S. peace efforts.
