11.09.2024 - 10:07Ukraine’s Ambassador to New Delhi, Oleksandr Polischuk, stated that the Ukrainian side would like to see India as a moderator of negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.
This information reports by Bloomberg.
Ukraine wants India to use its connections with Russia to convince Moscow to join peace talks, Polischuk said. Kyiv has proposed that New Delhi host a peace summit by November 2024, but it remains unclear whether India will agree, the agency notes.
“If India aspires to gain a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, it is setting the bar too low,” Polischuk said.
According to the ambassador, India should not be content with the role of a “messenger, passing messages between Ukraine and Russia,” but instead play a more “active role.”
India’s active involvement in resolving the conflict has become relevant as, with the arrival of winter, Russia continues to target Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Bloomberg emphasizes.
Recently, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said that representatives from Moscow and Kyiv should be present together at negotiations to end the conflict. He added that resolving the contradictions through military means is not possible.
