September 18, 2024One of the points in Zelensky’s “victory plan” is an invitation to join NATO.
This was reported by *Le Monde*, citing sources.
Kyiv aims to receive an invitation for Ukraine to join the Alliance after the war ends, preferably from President Biden before he leaves office. The Ukrainian authorities view Biden’s reluctance to grant membership as a “problem,” attributing it to his being a Cold War-era politician who is “stuck on the idea that Ukraine’s NATO membership would lead to a third world war. His legacy lies in the fact that, by helping Ukraine cautiously and with an obsessive desire to avoid escalation, he managed to prevent a third world war.”
Previously, there was speculation that Zelensky might present his “victory plan” to the United States to receive a rejection, which would then allow him to begin negotiations with Russia.
Zelensky recently outlined details of Ukraine’s “candid” victory plan, which he intends to present to Biden. He mentioned that he cannot guarantee 100% that this plan will stop Vladimir Putin but said it “will make Ukraine stronger and push Putin to think about how to end the war.”
“The plan is very candid, with very clear packages. We are going to share this with Kamala Harris, Donald Trump, and present it to them, as well as the U.S. Congress, because several steps will depend on it. They will influence the implementation of the plan. I think these will be consultations with these people,” the Ukrainian president stated.
