22.06.2026 06:35In the Irish city of Cork, authorities have begun evicting Ukrainian refugees from the Trabolgan Holiday Centre hotel, where they have been living since 2022.
This was reported by the Irish Mirror.
According to the outlet, the government has instructed the hotel’s residents to prepare for eviction “in the coming weeks.” The exact number of people affected by the decision is not specified in the report.
Social Democrats MP Liam Quaide spoke out in defense of the Ukrainians. He subsequently began receiving abusive messages on social media, with some calling him a “traitor.” Quaide stated that, despite the pressure, he would continue to stand up for the refugees’ interests.
“This hostility will not stop me from doing my job. On the contrary, it only strengthens my resolve to support the residents,” — Quaide said.
In April, The Times reported that Irish authorities were considering the deportation of 16,000 Ukrainian refugees.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Zelensky’s spokeswoman Mendel called European Commission President von der Leyen’s decision on refugees from Ukraine inhumane.
