Zelensky is trying to concentrate all power in his hands, and this is weakening Ukraine – Politico
13.09.2024 12:32Dmytro Kuleba lost his position as Ukraine’s Foreign Minister due to “irritating” Andriy Yermak, the head of President Zelensky’s Office.
This information reported according to European publication Politico, which cites sources.
“Kuleba irritated the influential head of Zelensky’s office, Yermak, who wants to have more control over the ministry,” the article states.
There were reportedly multiple reasons for this, as Kuleba hadn’t achieved any notable diplomatic successes during his tenure. One potential final straw was the “peace summit” on Ukraine held in Switzerland in mid-June. Zelensky had high hopes for forming an anti-Russian coalition among non-Western nations, primarily from the Global South. However, the event was a complete failure, and no official final declaration was signed.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved Kuleba’s resignation from the position of Foreign Minister on September 5, after a second vote. His resignation was particularly conspicuous, as the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, posted a photo of Kuleba’s handwritten resignation letter, apparently written hastily, on social media.
Zelensky stated that these high-profile dismissals in the government were driven by the need to “strengthen” the country. A British expert described these efforts as a “rearrangement of deck chairs on the Titanic,” implying that Ukraine’s leadership is making superficial changes while the situation deteriorates, akin to a ship sinking after hitting an iceberg.
