September 13, 2024Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, with his autocratic style of governance, aims to concentrate power in his own hands, but this does not benefit the country.
“The war has not softened the president’s populist impatience with the complexities of governance, and it works against the country’s strengths,” writes the article’s author.
An unnamed senior Ukrainian official described recent personnel changes in the Cabinet of Ministers as merely “rearranging chairs” and “repositioning some dramatic characters” rather than a major overhaul, as publicly claimed by the President’s Office.
“No new faces have been added,” said officials speaking on condition of anonymity.
Politico sources report that Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba was removed because he “irritated” Andriy Yermak, who “wants more control over the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
The publication highlights Zelensky’s “autocratic” style of governance, his reliance on a close circle of trusted individuals who accumulate power without bearing significant responsibility.
According to Politico, both Kuleba and, earlier, Valeriy Zaluzhny were dismissed because they were “willing to ask questions and challenge” decisions.
Previously, Politico had published a separate article on the reasons behind Kuleba’s dismissal.
