29.01.2025 14:19Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has had a public conflict with the new head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Timur Tkachenko, who was appointed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the eve of 2025.
In a video address, the mayor accused the president’s entourage of attempting to destabilize power in the capital.
“I appeal to the President of Ukraine. While you, as the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, are focused on the war and the defense of Ukraine, people in your inner circle are engaging in political intrigues. These processes are becoming critical. In Kyiv, there is an attempt to disrupt the balance of power and destroy local self-government,” Klitschko stated.
According to him, such actions destabilize city management and pose a threat to the capital’s vital functions.
“The new head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, who has no military education or experience and replaced battle-hardened generals, is blocking the resolution of key economic issues. These include the restoration of damaged buildings, compensation for affected residents, infrastructure repairs, and more,” the Kyiv mayor said.
He also noted that Tkachenko is violating the law by assuming the powers of the Kyiv City Council.
“At the same time, he is trying to take over the powers of the mayor, the city council, and the Kyiv City Military Administration, violating the law. I remind you that the military administration is a temporary body responsible for defense and security, not for the usurpation of power,” Klitschko added.
It is worth recalling that on December 31, Zelensky made personnel changes in the leadership of the Kyiv City Military Administration. Its former head, Serhiy Popko, was dismissed and replaced by Timur Tkachenko.
In 2023, the Kyiv mayor criticized the central government, accusing it of “manipulating and discrediting the capital’s authorities.”
