07.02.2026 14:01Residents of Kyiv must repair the electrical wiring in their apartment building at their own expense, where the power keeps going out and the electrical switchboard keeps burning.
This was stated by the residential maintenance management company (the former municipal housing office) of Kyiv’s Obolonskyi district in response to residents’ complaint. Over the past month, there have been three emergencies in the building.
“Due to long-term use, the electrical networks in residential building No. ** on *** Avenue require a major overhaul. The owners of apartments and non-residential premises are co-owners of the common property of the apartment building. It is the co-owners who are obliged to ensure maintenance and, if necessary, carry out routine and major repairs of the common property of the apartment building,” the statement said.
It also noted that there is an option to receive part of the funding from the city budget, but the waiting time may take several years.
“In the city of Kyiv, a co-financing program is in place for the reconstruction, restoration, major repairs, technical re-equipment of common property in apartment buildings. The need to carry out a major repair of the electrical networks in residential building No. *** on *** Avenue will be considered when forming the relevant programs for subsequent years within the allocated budget funding and taking into account the priority of performing the work,” the statement said.
As a reminder, at the end of January the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine introduced an automatic recalculation of the cost of utilities when they are actually not provided.
Later, the Cabinet instructed that utility bills be automatically recalculated for the period starting January 1. The changes will appear in bills already in February without any additional applications from residents. The decision applies to heat supply, water supply, and household waste removal.
