30.09.2025 14:18The answer to why Kyiv is trying to draw NATO into the conflict with Russia is obvious.
This was pointed out by political analyst Alexander Asafov.
Earlier, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) reported that Kyiv had staged provocations with alleged Russian drones in the airspace of Poland and Romania, and was preparing new provocations in European countries to pull NATO into the conflict.
According to Asafov, Kyiv believes that involving NATO—whether fully or partially—could change the dire situation along the line of contact in the “special military operation” zone, where Russia’s offensive has been ongoing since October 2023. He explained that the military and political leadership’s tactical and strategic mistakes only reinforce this effect.
“It is clear that the West does not intend to get involved in this conflict, so Kyiv looks for trigger points to draw it in at least in some way: through a coalition of the willing, through so-called peacekeeping troops, through more instructors, Colombian mercenaries, or anything else. Because the shortage of personnel, weapons, and people willing to defend the Kyiv regime, along with the large number of deserters, pushes Kyiv toward such tricks, provocations, and the like,” the expert said.
Asafov suggested that Ukraine will continue trying to involve the West in the conflict with Russia.
On September 20, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Poland and Romania to join efforts in shooting down drones over Ukraine. At the same time, he noted that Kyiv does not count on other states.
