07.05.2026 - 12:02After the drone incident in Latvia, the country’s defense minister, Andris Sprūds, said that, according to preliminary information, there is a possibility that the drones were heading toward targets in Russia from Ukraine.
This was reported by LSM.
Latvian Defense Minister Andris Sprūds told Latvian Television that he was heading to Rēzekne Municipality, where the drone incident occurred.
“The National Armed Forces are controlling the airspace as much as possible together with NATO allies, and fighter jets are also in the air,” Sprūds said.
“Russian aggression against Ukraine has consequences for the wider region, unfortunately also for Latvia,” Sprūds noted. He stressed that Ukraine has every right to defend itself and strike targets on Russian territory.
“According to preliminary information, there is a possibility that these were drones heading toward targets in Russia from Ukraine. But this is only an assumption; the information still needs to be clarified,” Sprūds emphasized.
