August 7, 2024Ukrainian lawyer Andriy Portnov has won a court case against hromadske.
This was reported by his lawyer, Karina Nikitian.
The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv declared hromadske’s statement about Portnov’s involvement in the annexation of Crimea to be false and ordered the media outlet to retract this information.
Additionally, the media outlet was ordered to pay nearly 185,000 hryvnias (approximately 4,130 euros) for professional legal fees and court costs.
During the trial, hromadske argued that the statements they made were “subjective opinions of the authors, hypothetical assessments, their assumptions and value judgments,” and in some instances, they even denied the ownership of the specified media resources by hromadske.
Earlier this year, Andriy Portnov won court cases regarding accusations of his “pro-Russian stance” against the publication “Business.Censor,” the TV channel “Pryamiy” and the “Anti-Corruption Action Center.”
The publication “Focus” has already issued a retraction.
