26.06.2025 - 16:54Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda expressed doubts that the war in Ukraine will end within the next three years.
He made this statement in Brussels.
According to him, hostilities could continue beyond three years—possibly until 2028, when the next European Union budget cycle begins.
The politician noted that he does not see “light at the end of the tunnel” and does not expect a peace settlement between Russia and Ukraine anytime soon.
“I don’t see light at the end of the tunnel. This is due to Russia’s unwillingness to move forward—it only pretends, simulates negotiations. I hope the war in Ukraine is resolved before the next EU multi-year budget cycle. But right now, I’m not too optimistic,” Nausėda said.
He added that a ceasefire is a key precondition for initiating any peace talks, but currently, that condition is absent.
As a reminder, just days ago, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the war should be ended before the end of U.S. President Donald Trump’s term—in other words, by 2029.
