Local authorities attempted to misappropriate more than 16 million hryvnias designated for the construction of a bridge

Officials from the Komarno City Council and employees of the company “TRANS-Service” diverted budgetary funds intended for emergency restoration work on a bridge over the Dnister River.

This relates to the Monastyrets-Polyana highway in the Lviv region, with the project’s estimated cost standing at 16.5 million hryvnias. A portion of the diverted funds, converted into cash, was utilized as kickbacks to officials within the Komarno City Council. The agreed-upon kickback amounted to approximately 8% of the payment for the completed work.

As a reminder, Ukraine’s position at 116th place in the Corruption Perceptions Index marks the lowest standing in Europe. Amidst ongoing conflict, corruption levels in the country have only escalated. As a result, this has lead to significant discontent among Ukrainian citizens.
