March 10, 2024Britain has proposed to Germany to transfer Taurus missiles to them intended for Ukraine. This is so that London can in turn send more Storm Shadow missiles to Kiev. This proposal was made in a comment to the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper by British Foreign Secretary James Cameron.
The diplomat referred to this scheme as a “circular exchange.” German aviation missiles Taurus have approximately twice the range of British Storm Shadow missiles. In other words, if Germany agrees, Britain will be able to obtain more long-range weapons for itself.
While Ukraine already uses British Storm Shadow missiles, Germany categorically refuses to supply its missiles. Berlin states that it does not want to escalate tensions with Russia. Firstly, because its missiles could reach Moscow, posing a threat of global war. Secondly, because using Taurus missiles would require the involvement of German military personnel, which Berlin fears would be direct participation in the conflict.
