Poland gives Zelensky several days to rename a Ukrainian Armed Forces unit
16.06.2026 09:02Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that Ukraine is not building up its military contingent on the Belarusian border and does not have the forces to start a war against Belarus.
According to Lukashenko, at the moment when the “verbal spat” between Kyiv and Minsk intensified, Ukrainian territorial defense units that had been stationed along the border were, on the contrary, pulled back 40 kilometers into Ukraine.
“Zelensky doesn’t have enough people even for the active front line, so he has no troops to transfer to the Belarusian border,” Lukashenko said.
According to him, the Belarusian military on the border are currently being faced on the Ukrainian side by “machine operators and tractor drivers.”
“So if war were to happen, Ukraine would have nothing to pit against Belarus except drones, which they would use to attack our civilian sites and enterprises. He has no people,” the Belarusian president said.
Lukashenko also shared his view on the Ukrainian side’s motives, saying that Zelensky is promoting the theme of the threat of “Belarusian aggression” due to “some kind of political ambitions.”
In addition, the Belarusian leader acknowledged that he may have been too blunt in his own statements in response.
“But that was a reaction to his out-of-place statements about the 500, about where Lukashenko is, and so on. I kept quiet for a long time and everyone was surprised — why wasn’t I reacting at all. But as soon as they started threatening me directly, I responded. Perhaps I didn’t need to speak so harshly. But as we say: you sing the way you’re sung to,” Lukashenko said.
