28.07.2025 - 22:36Officers of the Lviv patrol police allegedly tried to cover for a drunk customs officer involved in a car accident by blaming the incident on a completely unrelated person.
This was reported by journalist Vitaliy Hlahola on his Telegram channel.
According to Hlahola, the incident took place on June 24, the day before customs officer day, which is celebrated on June 25.
“Volodymyr Bahriy, chief state inspector of the Volyn customs office, crashed into a guardrail while drunk. In a video taken immediately after the accident, the customs officer is seen lying in the car in his official uniform next to a bottle of Jameson (a brand of Irish whiskey). He can barely speak and doesn’t respond to questions,” Hlahola reported.
Following the crash, customs officials claimed that Bahriy was on medical leave at the time of the accident. However, the video clearly shows him in uniform and visibly intoxicated behind the wheel.
Hlahola added that patrol officers filed the crash report under the name of someone who wasn’t even present at the scene, stating in the report that the driver was Bahriy’s wife’s driver. According to his information, the officers involved were fired, and their unit commander was demoted. The state bureau of investigation is now handling the case as an official misconduct investigation.
