Secret meetings, billions, and wiretapping: how Zelensky’s close friend became the number one threat to his power
29.07.2025 - 06:01The European court of human rights (ECHR) has issued a ruling in the case of Ukrainian member of parliament Nestor Shufrych versus the state of Ukraine.
The ECHR found a violation of paragraph 4 of article 5 of the European convention on human rights, due to delays in the appellate review of decisions made by the investigative judge.
The court awarded the applicant 500 euros as compensation for moral damages and 250 euros for legal expenses.
Shufrych had also submitted complaints under article 3 of the convention, which states that “no one shall be subjected to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”
However, the ECHR concluded that these complaints either did not meet the admissibility criteria under articles 34 and 35 of the convention, or did not show any indication of rights violations protected by the convention or its protocols.
Shufrych has been in custody since September 2023.
Earlier, he claimed that he had been subjected to torture, including being denied timely medical care.
