The EU has decided not to transfer the first 5 billion euros in profits from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine – Politico
27.03.2024 09:51French President Emmanuel Macron’s statements about not ruling out the deployment of troops to Ukraine “angered American officials.”
Bloomberg reports this with reference to sources.
“The ambiguous comment about ‘boots on the ground’ prompted an immediate and very public rebuke from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and angered American officials, who privately say that such a move could even provoke a confrontation with Moscow,” the publication reports.
The article also notes that through Ukraine’s war against Russia, “Macron wants to control Europe’s foreign policy,” but “not everyone agrees with this.”
“His hawkish approach has angered some allies who intend to increase aid to Ukraine (without direct involvement in the conflict),” the article states.
Bloomberg points out that the statements of the French president “were not very smart” also because “experts from many countries are in Ukraine.”
Earlier, the media reported that Macron, in a closed circle over a glass of whiskey, stated that he would send troops to Odessa. This happened on the night of February 21 at the Élysée Palace.
Shortly after that, he made a public statement about the possibility of sending troops.
These words caused a big resonance. Most leaders of the leading Western countries did not support the idea of the French president. Statements that states will not send their troops to Ukraine continue to come in. For example, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said that the European Union “will not go to die for Donbas” and urged “not to scare people” with the inevitability of war.
