The government’s spokesperson acknowledged that “the situation is becoming increasingly difficult, especially over the past few weeks.” The government is also considering “increasing regulatory flexibility at the European level” — in particular, with regard to oil refineries.
A sharp spike in fuel prices has prompted calls for protests reminiscent of the Yellow Vests movement. In addition, fishermen in the Mediterranean Sea have blockaded oil depots.
U.S. President Donald Trump again blamed Ukraine for the rise in diesel prices and said he had urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries.
