Those who left Russia due to the war in Ukraine are returning en masse. Reverse migration is stimulating the economy of the Russian Federation
02.05.2024 - 14:33French President Emmanuel Macron has outlined two conditions for sending French troops to Ukraine: a breakthrough by Russia on the front line and a request from Kyiv.
He made these remarks in an interview with The Economist.
“If the Russians were to break through the front line, if a request came from Ukraine (which is not the case today), we would have to ask ourselves this question according to the law,” stated the French President.
He reminded that Paris has previously sent troops to other countries, notably recently to Africa to combat terrorism. Macron argues that Western countries should not dismiss this option “a priori,” as in the summer of 2022 they ruled out sending tanks, long-range missiles, and aircraft, but now all of this is being supplied to Ukraine.
It’s worth noting that Macron is discussing sending troops to Ukraine for non-combat tasks such as training, demining, etc. Former British Minister of Defense supported Macron’s idea of sending Western troops to Ukraine for training. He believes that just sending thousands of tanks, hundreds of fighters, and thousands of artillery pieces will not be enough for the victory of the Ukrainian Armed Forces—”that’s not how it works.”
Meanwhile, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg stated that the North Atlantic Alliance does not plan to deploy troops to Ukraine.
