Man who hid in forest for 11 days after wounding two police officers detained in Bukovyna

Police in Chernivtsi Oblast have detained a 54-year-old man who wounded two criminal investigation officers and evaded law enforcement for more than 11 days.

The incident occurred on July 28 in the village of Izhyvtsi. According to police, during a search the man grabbed a weapon and opened fire on the officers. Two criminal investigation officers sustained gunshot wounds and were hospitalized. The shooter fled the scene.

A special police operation was launched across the region to search for the suspect. KORD officers, the National Guard, dog handlers, and drone operators were all involved.

On August 8, the man was found and detained in a building used to store dry grass.
