In the new law on military duty, there’s a proposal to equalize men and women in most rights and duties.
Ukrainian Member of Parliament Maryana Bezuhla announced this on her Facebook page.
“Women will retain a unique exemption and the right to dismissal – pregnancy. If pregnant, they are not obliged to be mobilized/can resign. However, at the same time, maternity leave as a right to deferment/resignation is planned to be granted to both the wife and husband, as they choose,” she wrote.
“Moreover, women will be able to join assault units and other combat professions strictly on a voluntary basis. For spouses of servicemen/women with 1-2 children, one of them will have the right to deferment/resignation, and if there are three or more children, both will have this right. Also, in the draft, if a male serviceman has a third child, he gets the right to resign,” Bezuhla added.
Earlier, Bezuhla reported the abolition of compulsory service and mobilization from the age of 25 in the draft law on military service.
