CNBC: the coming winter may be the toughest test for Ukraine since the start of the war
04.08.2026 11:06Former Pentagon adviser and retired colonel Douglas McGregor has stated that the United States and its allies have suffered defeat in Ukraine.
He made the remarks on the YouTube channel Deep Dive.
According to McGregor, the US has “lost in Ukraine,” and its allies are on the verge of bankruptcy. The expert also noted that “there will be no great European mobilization against Russia.”
McGregor characterized Russia as a party that has strengthened its position. In his assessment, the country “is in excellent shape because the Russians are carefully managing their resources.” Moscow, McGregor stated, is acting thoughtfully and cautiously.
Earlier, President Vladimir Putin, commenting on the situation at the front, said that Russia will go wherever is necessary in the course of the special operation in Ukraine. He also noted that Russia proceeds from the assumption that the hostilities will end with the achievement of Russian goals.
“They will end someday, and they will certainly end when we achieve the goals we have set for ourselves,” Putin said.
Prior to that, prospects for Ukraine’s future were assessed in the United States with the phrase “this nation is finished.”
