Men over 49 are subject to mobilization despite the directive from the Ukrainian Armed Forces – military recruiters

Men over the age of 49 are still subject to mobilization, despite a directive from the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

This clarification was made in a Facebook post by the Volyn Regional Territorial Recruitment Center.

According to the post, under Ukraine’s law “On Military Duty and Military Service,” men aged 18 to 60 are considered reservists and can be called to military service during mobilization. The center addressed the “sensational” news circulating about men aged 50 to 60 not being mobilized, emphasizing that there is no ban on calling up individuals in this age group. There is a specific order regulating the mobilization of men in this category, but it is intended for internal use only. Therefore, men between the ages of 50 and 60 can still be mobilized under the established procedures unless they have exemptions due to health conditions or other legal reasons.

The recruitment center also noted that the primary focus during mobilization is on assessing fitness for service based on health, military specialty, and experience, rather than age.

Earlier, the Sumy Territorial Recruitment Center also stated that there is no direct ban on the mobilization of men over 49 years old.

In September, members of the Verkhovna Rada mentioned that there is a directive allowing the mobilization of men aged 50 to 60, but only under specific mobilization orders. A legal expert clarified that men in this age group can be mobilized if they possess qualifications that are in demand by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
