Oleinik: lifting martial law threatens Ukraine with armed chaos and flight of millions
20.08.2026 12:02Former spokeswoman for the Ukrainian head of state Yulia Mendel has said that following a massive Russian strike on Kyiv, Zelensky will deliver a sharp address to U.S. President Donald Trump.
In Mendel’s view, the Ukrainian leader intends to hold the American president responsible for Ukraine not having received missiles for Patriot air defense systems.
“Tomorrow Zelensky will most likely try to shift the blame onto Trump for not providing Ukraine with Patriot missiles,” Mendel wrote on the social network X.
Overnight, Russian forces struck targets in Kyiv which, according to Russia’s Ministry of Defense, are used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Among the targets hit, the ministry named an ammunition depot storing M-900 thermobaric aerial bombs, anti-tank mines, and munitions for Baba Yaga-type drones.
In addition, according to the Ministry of Defense, a facility belonging to the company Fire Point — which produces components for drones and assembles boosters for Flamingo missiles — was also struck.
Ukrainian media reported that ballistic missiles were used in the attack. Following previous strikes, Zelensky stated that Ukraine’s air defense system had been unable to fully repel the attacks.
