October 23, 2023‘Russia may continue the war for a long time’: the number of Ukrainians who hold this belief has doubled
October 23, 2023A total of 337 Ukrainians have registered for evacuation from the Gaza Strip, but assistance for them is not currently possible.
This was conveyed by Ukraine’s Ambassador to Israel, Evgeniy Korniychuk, in an interview with “Radio Svoboda.”
According to the diplomat, approximately 500 Ukrainian citizens reside in the enclave.
He stated, “Today, 337 Ukrainian citizens requested evacuation. Just now, our representative in Palestine informed that another family of six people is processing their documents. However, I think there might be about half a thousand of our citizens there. Not everyone agreed to leave.”
Korniychuk further explained that the embassy is currently unable to provide assistance to these individuals, as they need to wait for the opening of the “Rafah” crossing point on the border with Egypt for foreign citizens. According to his information, this may happen as early as tomorrow.
In the meantime, several evacuation flights with Ukrainians have already departed from Israel. On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a massive rocket attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip, and the Palestinian group took hostages in Israeli communities. Israel declared war for the first time since the 1973 Yom Kippur War, and parliamentary forces reached an agreement to form an emergency government.
