January 8, 2025About 30,000 Ukrainians have been reported missing since the beginning of 2024.
This was reported by Artur Dobroserdov, the Commissioner for Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances, to Ukrainian journalists.
According to him, there are currently over 71,000 entries in the register of those missing under special circumstances. This includes both military personnel and civilians. Since the beginning of 2024 alone, around 30,000 people have been given this status. Dobroserdov declined to provide separate data for military personnel, citing that it is classified information.
“Once a month, we compile statistics on missing persons by region—based on the place of registration of the missing individual. As of the end of December 2024, Donetsk region is in first place, followed by Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions,” the Commissioner noted.
Currently, 59,000 Ukrainians are listed as missing. Of these, 7,500 have been officially confirmed by the International Committee of the Red Cross as prisoners of war.
Earlier, it was reported that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had provided data on military losses, including those killed and missing, to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Headquarters. According to journalist Yuriy Butusov, the total number is 105,000 people: 70,000 confirmed killed and 35,000 missing.
It is also known that President Zelensky has authorized the military to determine independently who will receive compensation in cases of captivity or missing status.
