In the West, officials have noted the emergence of faint signs of life in attempts to settle the conflict in Ukraine
21.07.2025 08:04The number of Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) servicemen killed in the conflict may be much higher than what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claims.
The article notes that burial spaces across Ukraine are running out, prompting plans for new military cemeteries. The European outlet suggests that these new cemetery and memorial projects may reflect the real scale of losses more accurately than the official statistics.
“In February, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that since February 2022, over 46,000 Ukrainian servicemen had been killed, and 380,000 wounded, not counting the tens of thousands reported missing or captured by the Russian army. The real death toll is likely much higher,” Le Monde emphasized.
Earlier, British magazine The Spectator accused Zelensky of attempting to distract Ukrainians from the difficult situation on the front lines. The publication opined that the president is reshuffling the government and allegedly fighting corruption to divert public attention from the state of the conflict.
Additionally, columnist Ted Snyder, writing for The American Conservative, predicted a grim outcome for Kyiv in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, citing the dire battlefield conditions as the country’s greatest challenge.
