14.01.2025 - 13:01Russia is ready to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
He made this statement during a major press conference summarizing the activities of Russian diplomacy in 2024.
Lavrov referred to Ukraine using the phrase “the country that is now called Ukraine, or the part of it that has not yet determined its status, unlike Crimea, Donbas, and Novorossiya.”
Kyiv has been demanding security guarantees to end the war. According to Bloomberg, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump acknowledges that any agreement would need to include security guarantees for Kyiv in some form. However, Trump has already indicated that he does not intend to invite Ukraine to join NATO.
During the press conference, Lavrov also addressed other topics on the current agenda. Commenting on Trump’s plans to annex Greenland to the United States, Lavrov said, “Trump should first listen to the Greenlanders, just as Russia listened to the people of Crimea and Donbas.”
Lavrov also accused the United States and Ukraine of planning to sabotage the Turkish Stream gas pipeline.
“The U.S. is giving the green light to terrorist actions aimed at destroying the foundation of Europe’s energy stability. They are inciting their Ukrainian clients to disable the Turkish Stream pipeline, following the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines,” Lavrov stated.
Notably, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported yesterday that a drone attack was attempted on the “Russkaya” compressor station in the Krasnodar region, which supplies gas to the Turkish Stream pipeline.
