Ukraine to introduce verification of companies recruiting foreign volunteers for the Armed Forces of Ukraine
08.07.2026 10:34US allies in NATO have tempered their expectations for the summit in Ankara following critical statements by American President Donald Trump.
This was reported by Politico.
According to the outlet, Trump’s counterparts had hoped he would arrive at the summit in Turkey “in a business mood.” However, that did not happen.
“Instead, he immediately went on the attack, once again making allies wonder how committed he is to defending them,” Politico writes.
Arriving in Ankara on Tuesday, Trump said that events in Ukraine do not affect the United States, and once again asserted Washington’s claims to Greenland. An unnamed NATO diplomat complained to the outlet that alliance members are fulfilling all US requirements on security matters.
“But the day of big defense deals has now been overshadowed by complaints about Greenland,” the Politico source said.
An unnamed former NATO official, for his part, noted that while Trump’s words cast a shadow over the summit, they came as no surprise.
“All these risks are priced in. Everyone was expecting this,” he said.
