Members of the NATO and its leadership may send Western troops to assist the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but not on behalf of the alliance, rather based on bilateral agreements with Kyiv.
This was stated to The Irish Times by retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman.
“It is quite possible to see a scenario in which Ukraine’s allies and partners deploy their own troops at combat contact points, but not as part of NATO, but on the basis of bilateral agreements,” said the former senior military official.
Previously, former CIA analyst Larry Johnson stated that Western troops would be unable to fight the Russian Armed Forces if sent to Ukraine.
“It will not yield results, they will die, and all it will do is create more body bags returning to France,” he noted.
On June 24, it was reported that the head of European Union diplomacy, Josep Borrell, proposed sending military instructors from EU countries to Ukraine to train Ukrainian soldiers on its territory.
