January 29, 2024Negotiations for peace in Ukraine may take place after the presidential elections in the United States.
This opinion was expressed by former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe James Stavridis in an interview with WABC radio.
In his view, Ukraine and Russia are exhausted by the prolonged war.
“I think by the end of this year, perhaps after the U.S. elections, we will have a moment for potential negotiations,” said the admiral.
According to Stavridis, the war between Russia and Ukraine will end in a “Korean scenario.” Ukraine will have to agree that the territories in the east of the country, as well as Crimea, will remain with Russia, and Moscow will agree to Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
“I see Ukraine joining NATO. I think the outlines of this deal will become clearer as this year progresses,” Stavridis noted.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported, citing sources, that Russia is not against such a deal. At the same time, the Kremlin denied agreeing to Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
