January 30, 2024The Norwegian government proposes introducing new restrictions for Ukrainian refugees.
These were announced at a briefing by the Minister of Labor and Inclusivity, Tone Brenna.
The government website lists these proposals:
- Ukrainians will no longer receive financial support if they choose to live privately rather than in refugee reception centers.
- The state will no longer cover expenses for pets for newly arrived asylum seekers. In practice, newcomers will not have the opportunity to live in refugee reception centers with pets.
- A requirement of five years of residency will be introduced to qualify for free dental services for individuals aged 19-24.
- A requirement of 12 months residency will be introduced to qualify for a one-time benefit, currently amounting to 92,648 Norwegian kroner (approximately 9,200 dollars).
- A longer residency in Norway will be required to access basic and additional benefits.
- The allowance for spouses and partners without children is reduced by a total of approximately 6,000 Norwegian kroner per month.
It is also reported that this winter, the government has already implemented the following measures:
- Travel to and from Ukraine and Norway is limited.
- Accommodation and transport are no longer provided to Ukrainians traveling to places other than the National Arrival Center in the municipality of Råde.
- A period of residency in Norway is required to access a range of benefits through national insurance.
Earlier, Norway decided to pay 1,500 euros to Ukrainians who want to return to Ukraine. To receive it, one must submit a notification of departure from Norway.
