January 15, 2025Today, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio is set to present his candidacy for the position of Secretary of State. He is one of the key appointees of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
This was reported by Fortune magazine.
It is expected that his statements will feature a predominantly strong anti-China rhetoric.
According to Rubio, China has “deceptively” and “at the expense of the United States” paved its way to “global superpower status.”
“We welcomed the Communist Party of China into this global order. And they took advantage of all its benefits. But they ignored all its commitments and responsibilities. Instead, they lied, cheated, hacked, and stole their way to global superpower status at our expense,” Rubio’s statement reads.
His speech is also expected to assert that the “liberal world order,” long cherished by the American elite, must be discarded. Additionally, the “post-war world order” (referring to the system of international relations established after World War II, including the UN and its related frameworks—Ed.) is “not only obsolete—it is now a weapon being used against us.”
“While America has too often continued to prioritize the ‘global order’ over our core national interests, other countries have continued to act as nations always have and always will—pursuing what they believe to be in their interests,” the “outline” of Rubio’s speech states.
It has also emerged that media publications regarding the speech outline of the future Secretary of State do not mention Ukraine.
Notably, Ukraine was also absent from the candidate speech of Pentagon chief nominee Pete Hegset yesterday.
Furthermore, when responding to a question about Kyiv, Hegset refrained from commenting on whether military assistance would continue and called for a faster resolution of the war.
