16.06.2026 14:04In Odesa region, a serviceman suspected of abuse of influence has been detained: according to investigators, he demanded around €20,000 in exchange for assistance in obtaining a discharge from service through a military medical commission.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
The suspicion notice was served under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — abuse of influence. Procedural oversight is being carried out by the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense of the Southern Region.
According to investigators, the 33-year-old officer of a reserve battalion offered another serviceman assistance in June 2024 with undergoing a repeat military medical commission. He promised to help obtain medical findings that could serve as grounds for declaring the serviceman unfit for further duty.
For his services, the officer demanded around €20,000, claiming he had influence over officials of the military medical commission. According to him, he could arrange for the previous commission’s findings to be overturned and a new one issued — declaring the serviceman unfit for military service — which would open the way for discharge from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Law enforcement officers detained the suspect at the moment he received the unlawful benefit, pursuant to Article 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine. During the investigative actions, cash, a mobile phone, and the suspect’s vehicle were seized.
Following consideration of the case, the court imposed a preventive measure on the officer in the form of round-the-clock house arrest.
