February 27, 2024Residents of Europe were asked: if Donald Trump returns to power and stops aiding Kyiv, would EU member states be able to support Ukraine independently?
33% of Europeans believe that in this case, it would be necessary to reduce aid to Ukraine and stimulate peace negotiations with Russia. This option was most favored in Hungary (54%) and Romania (44%), and least favored in Sweden (15%) and Poland (19%).
The survey was conducted in 12 EU countries by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) analytical center.
Overall, the study showed that European citizens are not particularly optimistic. A minority of Europeans, averaging only 20% – from 7% in Greece to 43% in Sweden – would like Europe to increase its support for Ukraine.
21% of Europeans chose to maintain aid at its current level. This option was most popular in Sweden (26%) and Poland (25%), and least popular in Hungary (12%) and Romania (12%).
