November 6, 2023At his home near Kyiv, an explosion of a grenade resulted in the death of Gennadiy Chastyakov, an aide to the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhny.
Ukrainian sources report this tragic incident.
According to the information provided, when Chastyakov’s apartment was inspected, law enforcement officials found five more intact grenades. Mariana Reva, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, did not disclose the identity of the deceased but stated that a military serviceman died in the Kyiv region’s Chayki village due to the careless handling of a grenade.
“In Chayki village, at his home, a 39-year-old military serviceman died as a result of mishandling ammunition. His 13-year-old son was seriously wounded and has been hospitalized,” said the spokesperson.
It is reported that the man’s wife and daughter were also present in the house during the explosion. According to preliminary information, they did not suffer any injuries.
However, the television channel “Espreso” provides slightly different information regarding the death of Valeriy Zaluzhny’s aide compared to what was initially reported by the police and other media outlets, who claimed that he died due to mishandling a grenade. Citing the wife of the deceased, the channel states that the explosion occurred when the man opened a box of gifts he received for his birthday.
Valeriy Zaluzhny himself confirmed the death of his aide, stating that the explosion occurred while he was opening one of the gifts he received on his birthday.
