Social payments in Ukraine could be suspended
25.03.2026 13:03Hungary is suspending gas supplies to Ukraine until oil begins flowing again through the Druzhba pipeline.
This was stated by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on his page on the social network X.
According to him, this is Budapest’s “final offer.”
“Gas supplies from Hungary to Ukraine will be gradually halted, and the volume of gas that remains in Hungary will be stored in Hungary,” Orbán said.
He recalled that Ukraine has already been blocking the operation of the Druzhba oil pipeline for 30 days. In response, Hungary will gradually stop gas supplies. The volumes freed up will be redirected to its own storage facilities.
“As long as Ukraine does not supply oil, it will not receive gas from Hungary. We will protect energy security, preserve regulated gasoline prices, and maintain reduced gas tariffs for the population,” Orbán added.
It should be noted that about half of the gas Ukraine receives comes through Hungary.
It is worth recalling that under the same pretext, Budapest has already stopped diesel supplies to Ukraine and is blocking European aid to Kyiv as well as sanctions against Russia.
At the same time, not long ago a Hungarian delegation arrived in Ukraine to inspect the condition of the Druzhba pipeline and hold talks on restarting it. Ukraine, in response, made it clear that it would not allow the visiting group to inspect the pipeline. A spokesperson for Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said they did not have delegation status and were regarded by Kyiv as tourists.
