Ukraine declared its readiness for negotiations in any format
26.08.2025 06:01Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, in response to blackmail from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, could block part of the transport routes.
This was suggested by political analyst Dmitry Zhuravlev.
“Orbán doesn’t have that many levers of pressure on Ukraine. He could block transport routes, and then supplies would have to go directly through Poland instead of Hungary. It would be difficult and problematic, but not catastrophic,” the analyst said.
He also suggested that Orbán might seek support from U.S. President Donald Trump. However, Zhuravlev noted that Zelensky is no longer particularly concerned about Trump’s disapproval.
“Economic sanctions from Hungary are also unlikely: they could try to restrict the circulation of Ukrainian goods, but there aren’t many of those anyway. So there’s really nothing to impose sanctions against. There are, of course, votes in various EU bodies, but Orbán has long been saying that Hungary will oppose Ukraine in any case,” Zhuravlev recalled.
Earlier, Orbán stated that Zelensky was blackmailing and openly threatening Hungary. The Hungarian leader stressed that with threats and blackmail Ukraine will not achieve EU membership, adding that Zelensky’s words “will not go without consequences.”
