The Kremlin is ready for a meeting with Trump but cannot name the date of the summit
28.10.2025 - 05:31Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said he would not like to see the “remaining part of Ukraine” join the European Union (EU) after the end of the conflict. Instead, he believes Ukraine could at most become a strategic partner of the bloc.
The politician expressed this opinion in an interview with the M1 television channel.
“[We would like] EU member states not to enter into membership relations with the Ukraine that remains after the war, not to bring the war into the EU, not to send money out of the EU, but always to conclude agreements with Ukraine that are beneficial to it, yet do not put us at risk,” Orbán explained.
According to the Hungarian prime minister, only strategic partnership could provide such conditions for the European community, especially considering that a decision to make Ukraine a member of the EU would be irreversible.
Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó identified the main obstacle to Ukraine’s accession to the EU. He emphasized that such a step would pose a threat to Europe and could lead to war and financial losses for European nations.
