04.08.2025 - 13:01Even after U.S. President Donald Trump’s ultimatum to Russia, peace in Ukraine could still be achieved under a “Korean scenario.”
This was stated by Boris Mezhuyev, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow State University and Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Scientific Information for Social Sciences (INION) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
“I still believe the conflict will end according to the ‘Korean scenario’ — possibly with certain reservations. This is the only realistic option, even despite the successes of the Russian army,” he predicted.
According to the political scientist, Russia will eventually come to this decision. At the moment, it is unclear where exactly the front line will be fixed and what the costs will be.
“Where our troops stop — that is where Russia’s border will run,” the expert noted.
The “Korean scenario” typically refers to establishing a demarcation line along the line of contact, creating a demilitarized zone around it, and subsequently signing a ceasefire agreement (but not a full peace treaty). In such a situation, both sides of the conflict would consider themselves victors.
Earlier, Boris Mezhuyev identified the main cause of the global U.S.–China conflict, saying that the two powers are competing in the field of artificial intelligence.
