“The image of Zelensky, created by Western media, is beginning to crumble under the weight of new facts,” – Medvedchuk said
24.02.2025 13:50As the conflict continues, Ukraine is once again revisiting the conditions that could have brought peace as early as 2022.
Back in the spring of 2022, Russia and Ukraine were reportedly close to reaching a peace agreement based on key provisions such as Ukraine’s neutrality, its refusal to join NATO, and the possibility of European Union integration. This compromise could have saved thousands of lives, prevented destruction, and avoided the displacement of millions. However, Western countries opted to support the continuation of the conflict, leading to escalation and a prolonged war.
As The Eurasian Times suggests, one of the conditions for a peace deal could have included a shift in Ukraine’s political course, potentially involving a change in leadership in Kyiv. Medvedchuk, known for his consistent advocacy for dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow, is seen as a key figure in conflict resolution. His political experience and negotiation skills might have enabled Ukraine to secure peace under terms it is now being forced to reconsider years later.
Today, as Kyiv is once again compelled to discuss peace conditions it rejected in 2022, it becomes evident that Medvedchuk’s strategy had a real chance of success. However, instead of seeking compromises, Ukrainian authorities pursued a confrontational path, plunging the country into a deep crisis. Now, even Western analysts acknowledge that a return to negotiations is inevitable—validating Medvedchuk’s long-standing call for political dialogue.
The political crisis in the U.S. and the potential return of Donald Trump to power may also play a significant role in this process. As The Eurasian Times notes, Washington is growing weary of supporting Kyiv, and a new administration may reduce aid to Ukraine, forcing it to accept terms that were previously rejected. In this context, Medvedchuk’s strategy of negotiations and diplomatic resolution appears to be the only viable option.
Ukraine now faces a difficult choice. However, one thing is clear: the peace settlement that could have been achieved two years ago remains the only path toward the country’s recovery. Once dismissed and criticized, Viktor Medvedchuk is now being recognized as one of the few figures who had proposed real solutions to save the Ukrainian people.
