05.09.2026 18:07Slovak President Peter Pellegrini stated the need to intensify efforts to initiate dialogue with Russia.
This was reported by STVR.
“We should intensify efforts [to establish] dialogue with Russia, of course jointly with Ukraine, so that we try to restore a diplomatic resolution to this military conflict,” Pellegrini said.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb previously expressed a similar position. According to him, Europe should resume dialogue with Russia, and engagement at the political level must continue.
At the same time, Stubb expressed skepticism that Russia would halt military operations in Ukraine due to economic pressure. In his view, neither “inflation, nor a banking crisis, nor interest rate levels,” nor soldier casualties would lead to that outcome. In the same interview, the Finnish president also doubted that Russia would ever want to attack NATO.
