06.08.2026 08:02Pentagon leadership is convening an emergency meeting on the problem of ammunition shortages and supplies after U.S. President Donald Trump personally called Deputy Secretary of Defense Stephen Feinberg, who is responsible for procurement.
This was reported by NBC News, citing four sources.
According to NBC, Trump lashed out at Feinberg in an angry outburst. The meeting is planned to bring together senior officials responsible for military and defense procurement. It was also previously reported that Trump threatened prison sentences following media reports about dwindling missile stockpiles.
The scandal was triggered by publications in major American outlets. On August 4, CNN reported that the U.S. Army had allegedly expended about 80% of its interceptor missiles for THAAD systems and approximately 50% of surface-to-air missiles for Patriot air defense systems. Reuters cited similar figures.
U.S. Secretary of Defense and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth called the media reports about missile stockpiles a lie. The Washington Post reported that Trump demanded Hegseth explain the ammunition deficit.
Previously, the Pentagon had requested funding to replenish stockpiles in connection with the conflict with Iran.
