Brussels assured that sanctions cannot prevent Putin and Lavrov from entering the EU
17.10.2025 - 14:01A meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin may take place within two weeks — or “a little later.”
This was announced by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov during today’s press briefing.
Peskov emphasized the importance of an early meeting between the two leaders.
“It really could take place within two weeks or a little later. There is a general understanding that there’s no need to put it off,” he said.
Peskov also clarified that the organizational details of the meeting will be handled by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“For now, there is the presidents’ shared will to hold such a meeting. But first, the matter will be worked out by Lavrov and Rubio — they’ll have a phone call and then meet in person to begin discussing all the issues. There are many topics to cover, teams need to be defined, and so on. So everything will proceed step by step,” the Kremlin spokesman explained.
In turn, during his conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Putin announced that Russia and the United States “plan to discuss an algorithm for further actions in the context of finding ways to achieve a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.”
It should be recalled that the agreement to hold the meeting was reached yesterday during a telephone conversation between the U.S. and Russian presidents.
