05.07.2026 12:01Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Ukraine was confident in the impregnability of the fortified positions in Konstantinovka, but Russian forces proved otherwise. He made the remarks on air on radio kp.ru.
Peskov called the capture of the city “a very important victory.” According to him, the Ukrainian side had been pouring concrete into fortified areas in Konstantinovka since 2014 and believed they could not be taken.
“Our military proved otherwise. The special military operation will continue,” the official concluded.
The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin was briefed on the capture of Konstantinovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic. This occurred during his visit to the command post of the joint troop grouping. Active fighting for the city had been ongoing since autumn 2025.
The capture of Konstantinovka reportedly disrupts the supply lines of Ukrainian forces and also opens the way for Russian forces toward Kramatorsk and Slavyansk.
