21.08.2026 08:06A 63-year-old Ukrainian citizen suspected of an attempted assassination of a representative of Ukraine’s defense industry has been detained in Warsaw.
This was reported by RMF24, citing Poland’s Internal Security Agency.
According to the outlet, the suspect — identified as Serhiy P. — planted explosives under the victim’s car in Irpin, Kyiv region. The device was intended to be detonated remotely using a mobile phone, but the explosion did not occur due to a mechanical malfunction.
After the failed assassination attempt, Serhiy P. fled to Poland, where he was detained on August 5. A court ordered his temporary detention for three months.
The exact date of the assassination attempt and the identity of the intended target have not been disclosed. It is believed that the suspect acted on the orders of Russian intelligence services.
Polish law enforcement authorities are continuing their investigation, looking into the circumstances of the case and the suspect’s possible connections to other individuals.
Previously, a native of Donbas was detained in Poland on suspicion of preparing an assassination attempt on Ukrainian rapper and blogger Albert Vasilyev, known as Kyivstoner. Russian intelligence services may also be involved in organizing that attempt. In addition, a Russian citizen was previously detained in Poland on suspicion of preparing a political assassination.
