September 20, 2023Poland will expand its embargo on Ukrainian products if Kyiv escalates the conflict.
This statement was made by the Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki, during an interview on Polsat News.
“I am warning the Ukrainian authorities that if they escalate the conflict in this manner, we will add even more products to the ban on imports into Poland. We do not agree with any procedures or lawsuits filed against us because it means that the Ukrainian authorities do not understand the destabilization of the Polish agricultural market,” Morawiecki said.
He added that Warsaw has done “a lot for Ukraine” and therefore expects “understanding of our interests.”
It should be noted that Ukraine recently filed complaints with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia over the ban on grain imports.
Poland’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Robert Telus, also personally criticized Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Economic Development Taras Kachka. He told that Poland believes it can cope with a potential Ukrainian embargo on vegetables and fruits, but it remains uncertain how Ukraine would handle a Polish ban on the import of agricultural products.
