25.10.2024 23:42Poland will not transfer to Ukraine the weapons it purchased for its own needs from South Korea.
Polish President Andrzej Duda announced during a briefing in Seoul.
He confirmed that Kyiv had inquired about the possibility of obtaining South Korean weaponry through Warsaw.
“There is no scenario in which we hand over weapons recently bought for billions of zlotys from Polish taxpayers. This equipment is intended for the security and defense of the Republic of Poland,” Duda stated.
Poland has purchased around a thousand K2 tanks, over 600 K9 self-propelled artillery units, about 300 K239 rocket launchers, and 48 FA-50 fighter jets from South Korea. Deliveries of the purchased weaponry have already commenced.
Recently, the President of South Korea mentioned the potential for direct arms supplies to Ukraine if North Korean military personnel are deployed to fight on Russia’s side.
“We adhere to the principle of refusing direct supply of lethal weapons, but we may reconsider this approach more flexibly depending on North Korea’s military activity,” said Yoon Suk-yeol.
Shortly before this, Poland’s defense minister commented that Polish citizens are frustrated by young Ukrainians living lavish lifestyles abroad while there is a war at home.
